Dangerous Thunderstorms Possible Tuesday

Dangerous thunderstorms are possible across Southern Ontario today. A squall line is expected to move into the region around the dinner hour. Our Severe Weather Outlook highlights the main risk area being along the Lake Huron shoreline and in Southwestern Ontario. The risk becomes less the further east you go. The squall line will weaken as it moves east.

The High/Red area includes Windsor, London, Goderich, Kitchener, Kincardine, Tobermory, Midland, and Parry Sound. In these areas, the main threats will be heavy rain, large hail, strong wind gusts of 100 km/h or greater and the potential for a few tornadoes.

The Orange/Moderate area includes Brantford, Simcoe, Hamilton, Toronto, Newmarket, Bracebridge and Huntsville. In these areas, the main threats will be heavy rain, large hail, strong wind gusts of 100 km/h or greater and the potential for an isolated tornado.

The Yellow/Elevated area includes St. Catharines, Welland, Oshawa, Peterborough and Barry's Bay. In these areas, the main threats will be heavy rain, small hail and strong wind gusts of 90 km/h or greater.

The Green/Low area includes Belleville, Kingston, Brockville, Cornwall, Ottawa and Renfrew. In these areas, the main threats will be heavy rain and strong wind gusts of 90 km/h or greater.

Our Severe Weather Outlook will be updated as needed. Have a plan in place in case severe weather strikes, and have a way to receive weather warnings.
