Most Ontario schools to remain closed

In a press release today, the Ontario government announced that schools in only seven public health units will reopen on Monday, January 25. The list does not include any local public health units.


On Monday, January 25, schools will reopen in the following school boards:

  • Limestone District School Board

  • Renfrew County District School Board

  • Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board

  • Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board

  • Renfrew County Catholic District School Board

  • Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board

  • Bluewater District School Board


Parents in the following school boards should contact their local public health unit:

  • Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board

  • Trillium Lakelands District School Board

  • Upper Canada District School Board

  • Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario

  • Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board

  • Conseil des ecoles publiques de I'Est de l'Ontario

  • Conseil scolaire catholique Providence

  • Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir

  • Conseil scolaire de district catholique du Centre-Est de l'Ontario


The province announced on January 12 that schools in the following regions would not reopen until Feburary 10, 2021:

  • Windsor-Essex

  • Peel Region

  • Toronto

  • York

  • Hamilton

There was no date given for when schools in all other public health units will reopen.
