Ontario Announces Stronger Proof of Vaccination Requirements

In a press conference Friday afternoon, Christine Elliot, Ontario Minister of Health, announced further measures to protect Ontario citizens from COVID-19, including the Omicron variant.

In light of the Omicron variant, the province is delaying lifting proof of vaccination requirements in January 2022.

Effective January 4, 2022, Ontario citizens must use the QR code version for proof of vaccination, and the Verify Ontario app must be used by businesses where proof of vaccination is required. The QR code can be used digitally or by printing a paper copy.

Ontarians can download their enhanced certificate with QR code here. Individuals can visit their local library or can call the Provincial Vaccine Contact Centre at 1-833-943-3900 to have their vaccine certificate mailed to them. Service Ontario centres will also provide a printed copy.

Effective December 20, 2021, Ontario will begin requiring proof of vaccination for youth 12 to 17 years of age participating in organized sports at recreational facilities.
