Ontario Raises Speed Limit for Eight Highway Sections

The Ontario government has announced speed limit changes for 8 sections of highway in Ontario, which include the highway sections that were a part of the 110 km/h pilot project.


Effective April 22, 2022, the speed limit on the following highways will be increased to 110 km/h:

  • Highway 401 from Windsor to Tilbury

  • Highway 402 from London to Sarnia

  • Highway 404 from Newmarket to Woodbine

  • Highway 417 from Ottawa to the Ontario/Quebec Border

  • Highway 417 from Kanata to Arnprior

  • Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) from Hamilton to St. Catharines


In addition, the Ontario government announced that two highways in Northern Ontario will become part of a pilot project to increase speed limits to 110 km/h. Effective April 22, 2022, the speed limit on the following highways will be increased to 110 km/h:

  • Highway 11 from Emsdale to South River

  • Highway 400 from MacTier to Nobel
