Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued

Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for:

  • Chatham-Kent - Rondeau Park

  • London - Parkhill - Eastern Middlesex County

  • Rodney - Shedden - Western Elgin County

  • Sarnia - Petrolia - Western Lambton County

  • St. Thomas - Aylmer - Eastern Elgin County

  • Strathroy - Komoka - Western Middlesex County

  • Watford - Pinery Park - Eastern Lambton County

  • Windsor - Leamington - Essex County

Details:

Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and large hail. Hazards: Wind gusts of 100 km/h. Up to ping pong ball size hail. Risk of tornadoes. Timing: Late this afternoon and tonight. Discussion: Thunderstorms have developed over Michigan and are tracking towards the area. This initial line of thunderstorms is expected to track over the area late this afternoon and early this evening. After this line of thunderstorms, another line of thunderstorms may track over the area late this evening or overnight.


Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
