Severe Thunderstorms expected Friday

Humidity will bring along the risk for severe thunderstorms in Southwestern Ontario on Friday afternoon.


Below is our Severe Weather Outlook for the expected severe thunderstorms. This outlook will be updated throughout the day if modelling data changes.

A squall line will move across the region between 7-9 PM, and will weaken as it moves east. The Moderate risk area will receive the biggest punch from this squall line. The main threats will be heavy rain, large hail, strong winds (90-110 km/h) and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.


Areas further east in the Elevated and Low risk areas should expect heavy rain and the risk of small hail.


The Storm Prediction Centre (SPC) in Norman, OK has issued their outlooks for today, and these will be updated throughout the day.

The SPC categorical outlook shows a Slight risk of severe thunderstorms in Southwestern Ontario.


The SPC tornado outlook shows a 2% tornado risk for Southwestern Ontario, with a 5% risk just at the border.


The SPC wind outlook shows a 15% risk for damaging winds in Southwestern Ontario.


The SPC hail outlook shows a 15% risk for hail in Southwestern Ontario.
