Severe Weather Threat Begins Sunday Afternoon

There will be the threat for severe weather beginning Sunday afternoon. Severe thunderstorms are expected to move into the area from Michigan. The risk for this event is rather low compared to most events, however, areas in the Elevated category should stay weather aware.

Area and Threat Breakdown


Elevated (Yellow)

Areas: Goderich, Hanover, Kincardine, Owen Sound, Wiarton and Tobermory

Threats: Heavy Rain, Small Hail, Strong Wind Gusts (70 to 80 km/h), Isolated Tornado* and Frequent Lightning

*NOTE: The risk of an isolated tornado is very low, however, it should be noted as it is possible.


Low (Green)

Areas: Collingwood, Orangeville, Listowel, Grand Bend, London, St. Thomas, Sarnia, Chatham and Windsor

Threats: Heavy Rain, Small Hail, Strong Wind Gusts (70 to 80 km/h) and Frequent Lightning


Very Low (Light Green)

Areas: Midland, Barrie, Newmarket, Georgetown, Kitchener-Waterloo, Stratford and Woodstock

Threats: Heavy Rain, Strong Wind Gusts (70 to 80 km/h) and Frequent Lightning


Non-Severe (Cyan)

Areas: Simcoe, Brantford, Hamilton, Toronto, Oshawa, Peterborough, Orillia, Bracebridge, Parry Sound, Huntsville, Bancroft and Barry's Bay

Threats: Heavy Rain and Frequent Lightning


Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for the following areas:

  • Bruce Peninsula - Sauble Beach - Tobermory

  • Chatham-Kent - Rondeau Park

  • Goderich - Bluewater - Southern Huron County

  • Hanover - Dundalk - Southern Grey County

  • Listowel - Milverton - Northern Perth County

  • London - Parkhill - Eastern Middlesex County

  • Mount Forest - Arthur - Northern Wellington County

  • Owen Sound - Blue Mountains - Northern Grey County

  • Sarnia - Petrolia - Western Lambton County

  • Saugeen Shores - Kincardine - Southern Bruce County

  • Stratford - Mitchell - Southern Perth County

  • Strathroy - Komoka - Western Middlesex County

  • Watford - Pinery Park - Eastern Lambton County

  • Windsor - Leamington - Essex County

  • Wingham - Blyth - Northern Huron County


Details:

Isolated strong wind gusts associated with thunderstorms expected later today. Isolated thunderstorms are forecast to move across the area late this afternoon through early this evening. While the thunderstorms are not expected to be particularly strong, isolated wind gusts up to 70 or 80 km/h will be possible. Local power outages may occur as well as some damage to tree branches.
