A winter storm will move into Extreme Southwestern Ontario early Friday morning and push eastward throughout the day. Unfortunately, this winter storm is expected to cause travel delays, especially for those who are planning to leave on Friday for an early start to March Break.
In terms of timing, we are expecting the snow to begin in Extreme Southwestern Ontario between 4 and 5 AM, likely reaching Midwestern Ontario and the Niagara region between 7 and 8 AM, and the GTA between 10 and 11 AM.
Wind gusts of up to 60 km/h are expected throughout the duration of this storm, which is expected to reduce visibility as snow is falling, and produce blowing and drifting snow. Road conditions are expected to deteriorate throughout the day. A Wind Outlook will be issued if it is deemed necessary.
The snow will continue throughout the day on Friday before slowly tapering off through the evening hours. The snow will be completely out of the region by Saturday morning, likely allowing road crews to get the roads clean for good travelling conditions.
Snowfall Outlook
This storm will bring the heaviest snowfall amounts to Southwestern Ontario and the Golden Horseshoe. Areas within the Golden Horseshoe, including Hamilton and St. Catharines, will see higher snowfall totals due to lake enhancement from Lake Ontario. Lower snowfall amounts are expected through the GTA, as well as Huron, Perth, Grey, Bruce and Simcoe counties, and the Kawartha Lakes region.
Area Breakdown
15 to 20 cm: Oakville, Hamilton, St. Catharines and Welland.
10 to 15 cm: Windsor, Leamington, Chatham, Sarnia, London, St. Thomas, Woodstock, Brantford, Kitchener, Simcoe and Cayuga.
5 to 10 cm: Goderich, Seaforth, Stratford, Listowel, Orangeville, Newmarket, Markham, Toronto and Oshawa.
Trace to 5 cm: Kincardine, Port Elgin, Wiarton, Tobermory, Collingwood, Barrie, Orillia, Peterborough, Cobourg and Brighton.
Winter Storm Outlook
The highest impacts from this winter storm are expected throughout Southwestern Ontario and the Golden Horseshoe, as these areas will see the largest snowfall amounts, and the greatest potential for blowing and drifting snow. Impacts become less further north and east due to lower snowfall amounts.
Travel delays are expected, especially as many people may be leaving tomorrow for an early start to March Break. Road conditions are expected to become snow covered and slippery, leading to poor travel across the region.
