THURSDAY UPDATE: Potential Winter Storm Monday-Tuesday

After analyzing the latest model data available, we decided that an update for the potential winter storm next week was necessary. It is important to note that this event remains to be far out, and changes will most likely occur to the storm track and impacts.


As of the 18z (1 PM EST) model run, there appears to be agreement between weather models.


The American model (GFS) shows more snow for the region, the model data is shown below.


The 18z GFS shows snowfall accumulations of 20 to 40 cm across the region.



Above is the 18z GFS wind speeds parameter. It is forecasting wind speeds from 40 to 60 expected across the region.

Above is the 18z GFS wind gusts parameter. It is forecasting wind gusts from 70 to 90 km/h across the region.


To compare, the 12z (7 AM EST) Canadian model (GEM), is showing some agreement on snowfall totals and wind speeds across the region.

Above, the 12z GEM shows snowfall accumulations from 15 to 40 cm across the region.


Above is the 12z GEM wind speeds parameter. It is forecasting wind speeds from 25 to 45 expected across the region.


Above is the 18z GFS wind gusts parameter. It is forecasting wind gusts from 40 to 70 km/h across the region.


There is still a large amount of uncertainty with this event. Updates will be made when they are available.
