The Total Solar Eclipse will move over the area tomorrow! The eclipse will be visible in the afternoon across portions of Southern Ontario that are in the Path of Totality.
For your safety, ensure you are wearing ISO 12312-2 certified solar glasses. Do not attempt to make your own glasses, and do not use sunglasses as these do not provide adequate protection for your eyes. You can remove your glasses during a few moments of totality but then must put them back on when the sun returns.
To see the entire eclipse and watch the skies turn dark for a few minutes, you must be within the Path of Totality and have Obscuration of 100%. Totality typically lasts between 2 and 3 minutes. Locations within the path of totality will see a slight drop in temperature, and a significant reduction of daylight, possibly allowing the viewing of stars and planets.
We are expecting Southwestern Ontario, Prince Edward County, and Far Eastern Ontario to be the best viewing areas for the eclipse. These areas will likely see clearing by the afternoon in time to view the eclipse. Areas in Midwestern Ontario, the GTA, and portions of Eastern Ontario will see partly cloudy skies. Unfortunately, areas in Central Ontario and the Bruce Peninsula will likely be under mainly cloudy skies during the afternoon.
