Two Windsor-Essex Fast Food Restaurants in Outbreaks

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has declared COVID-19 outbreaks at two fast food restaurants. The health unit declared outbreaks at the Taco Bell on Tecumseh Road near Lauzon Parkway and at the McDonald's in Belle River.

The outbreaks were declared after several employees tested positive for COVID-19. The outbreak at McDonald's in Belle River includes cases that have tested positive for a Variant of Concern. The health unit says "Variants of Concern are associated with increased transmissibility and severity. Both facilities have been temporarily closed and testing recommended for all high-risk contacts."

The media release said that the risk of public exposure is low, however they recommend that:

"Any member of the public that visited the McDonald’s at 1635 Country Road 22 in Belle River between April 11th and April 18th or the Taco Bell at 6707 Tecumseh between April 14th and 19th to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19. Should symptoms develop, immediately self-isolate and contact a local assessment centre for testing."
