Blowing Snow and Snow Squalls for Monday Night

Last Update: 6:37 PM, January 17 2022

After a winter storm moved through the region earlier today, residents near Lake Huron will have to deal with Snow Squalls beginning tonight. Wind gusts will remain between 50 and 60 km/h for most areas tonight, resulting in blowing and drifting snow.

Snow Squalls will develop off the lake later tonight and will continue before tapering off tomorrow afternoon.

The highest totals expected will be 10 to 15 cm. This area includes Kincardine, Goderich, Listowel and Hanover.

Port Elgin, Orangeville, Kitchener and Stratford can expect 5 to 10 cm.

Owen Sound, Collingwood, Barrie, Woodstock and London can expect Trace to 5 cm.

Snow Squalls can result in major changes in visibility and weather conditions within only a few kilometres. Caution is advised if you are travelling in these areas.

Our Snowfall Outlook for these snow squalls is below.

Environment Canada has issued Snow Squall Watches and Warnings, as well as Winter Weather Travel Advisories in preparation for the snow squalls.

In addition, winds will remain fairly gusty across Southern Ontario, with wind gusts of 50 to 60 km/h expected overnight.

Our Winter Weather Hazards Outlook shows the areas we expect to be impacted by blowing and drifting snow due to the gusty winds, and also shows the areas that will be impacted the most by the snow squalls off Lake Huron.
