Today, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) held a press conference to provide an update on contract negotiations.

Minister of Education, Stephen Lecce, announced that bargaining will not continue until CUPE cancels their strike planned for November 4, 2022.

During the press conference, Laura Walton, president of CUPE's Ontario School Board Council of Unions, stated that the strike will continue on November 4, 2022 unless an agreement is reached. She also stated that parents should make plans in the event that schools are closed.

Walton says that beginning Friday, CUPE education workers will be on strike until further notice, unless an agreement is reached. CUPE plans to picket outside of local MPP offices, not schools.

In the event that an agreement is not reached, and the strike proceeds, a list of school closures will be posted. Stay tuned for further updates.
