EF1 Downburst Confirmed in Mitchell from July 24, 2025

The Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) has confirmed that an EF1 Downburst occurred in Mitchell on July 24, 2025.


They state that damage to several barns, power poles, trees and crops was reported after a thunderstorm passed through the area. The estimated maximum wind speed was 150 km/h. There was intermittent damage over an area 13.4 km long and up to 8.6 km wide. The estimated start time was 7:00 PM ET.


The NTP conducted a limited ground survey on July 24, 2025, and a full ground and drone survey on July 25 and 26, 2025.
