Elevated Risk for Severe Weather Friday

There will be an Elevated risk for severe weather this afternoon and evening, with the main risk area in Midwestern Ontario and through the Bruce Peninsula.

The Elevated risk area includes Collingwood, Goderich, Grand Bend, Hanover, Kincardine, Lion's Head, Listowel, Mount Forest, Owen Sound, Southampton and Tobermory. These areas will see threats including 60 to 80 millimetres of rain, the risk for an isolated tornado, wind gusts up to 100 km/h and hail 2 to 3 centimetres in diameter. There will be risks for flooding, flash flooding due to heavy rainfall, and power outages.

Areas to the south and east will see lesser threats.

Low (Light Green)

Locations: Amherstburg, Barrie, Bayfield Inlet, Burk's Falls, Chatham, Huntsville, Kitchener, Leamington, London, Midland, Orangeville, Orillia, Parry Sound, Pelee Island, Rondeau Park, Sarnia, Stratford, Wallaceburg and Windsor

Threats: Rainfall of 40 to 60 millimetres, the low risk for an isolated tornado, wind gusts up to 90 km/h, and hail 1 to 2 centimetres in diameter. There will be additional risks for flooding, flash flooding due to heavy rainfall, and power outages.

Very Low (Green)

Locations: Algonquin Park, Apsley, Haliburton, Kawartha Lakes, Long Point, Newmarket, Peterborough, Simcoe, St. Thomas, Whitney and Woodstock

Threats: Rainfall of 40 to 60 millimetres, wind gusts up to 80 km/h, and the risk for flooding.

Non-Severe (Seafoam)

Locations: Alexandria, Bancroft, Barry's Bay, Belleville, Brockville, Cobourg, Cornwall, Dunnville, Hamilton, Hawkesbury, Kaladar, Kingston, Oakville, Oshawa, Ottawa, Pemborke, Plevna, Port Colborne, Prescott, Prince Edward, Renfrew, St. Catharines and Toronto

Threats: Heavy rainfall.
