Elevated Risk for Severe Weather Saturday


There will be an Elevated risk for severe weather today across Eastern Ontario, with a lower risk for severe weather across the rest of the region. Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and evening.


The Elevated risk area covers Eastern Ontario, including Ottawa, Cornwall, Brockville, Belleville, Kingston, Barry's Bay and Bancroft. In these areas, threats will include heavy rain, large hail, flooding, strong wind gusts up to 100 km/h, and the threat of an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.


The Low risk area covers the GTA and Southwestern Ontario, including Peterborough, Cobourg, Toronto, Hamilton, Niagara, Brantford, London, Sarnia, Chatham and Windsor. In these areas, threats will include heavy rain, small hail, flooding, strong wind gusts up to 90 km/h, and there is a slight risk for an isolated tornado.


The Very Low risk area covers Midwestern Ontario and portions of Cottage Country, including Goderich, Kitchener, Orangeville, Kincardine, Tobermory, Barrie, Newmarket, Bracebridge, Huntsville and Parry Sound. In these areas, threats will include heavy rain, flooding and strong wind gusts up to 80 km/h.
