There will be an Elevated risk for severe weather this afternoon and evening in Deep Southwestern Ontario. Additional risks will exist for portions of Southwestern and Midwestern Ontario.
We are expecting the environment to become favourable this afternoon and evening. The highest risk will be in the Elevated risk area which includes Windsor, Leamington, Chatham, Sarnia and Grand Bend. Threats in these areas will include heavy rainfall, the risk for an isolated tornado, wind gusts up to 100 km/h, and hail 2 to 3 cm in diameter.
The thunderstorms may weaken slightly as they move eastward, encompassing the Low and Very Low risk areas.
Non-Severe thunderstorms are expected in the GTA and portions of Southcentral Ontario later in the evening and towards the overnight hours.
Elevated Risk
Locations: Chatham, Grand Bend, Leamington, Sarnia and Windsor.
Threats: Heavy rainfall of 20 to 40 mm or greater, the risk for an isolated tornado, wind gusts up to 100 km/h, and hail 2 to 3 cm in diameter.
Low Risk
Locations: Goderich, London, Stratford, St. Thomas and Woodstock.
Threats: Heavy rainfall of 20 to 40 mm or greater, a low risk for an isolated tornado, wind gusts up to 90 km/h, and hail 2 to 3 cm in diameter.
Very Low Risk
Locations: Brantford, Hamilton, Hanover, Kincardine, Kitchener, Listowel, Niagara Falls, Port Elgin, Simcoe and St. Catharines.
Threats: Heavy rainfall, wind gusts up to 80 km/h, and a low risk for hail.
Non-Severe Risk
Locations: Barrie, Collingwood, Midland, Newmarket, Oakville, Orangeville, Orillia, Oshawa, Owen Sound, Port Perry, Tobermory, Toronto and Wiarton.
Threats: Heavy rainfall and strong wind gusts likely less than 80 km/h.
