FIRST LOOK: Heat Wave Begins Sunday

The first heat wave of the season will begin tomorrow across the region. The extreme heat is expected to continue through much of the week, until at least Friday. There is the potential for the extreme heat to continue past Friday.


Temperatures will be into the 30s in Extreme Southwestern Ontario tomorrow before spreading across the rest of the region for Monday. Humidex values are expected to be into the 40s across the entire region by Wednesday.


Throughout the week, we encourage everyone to stay up to date with the latest forecasts. Ensure you stay hydrated and limit time outdoors. Extreme heat can be dangerous.


Sunday

The heat wave will begin slowly, with hot temperatures mainly affecting Extreme Southwestern Ontario and the Golden Horseshoe.


Area Breakdown

30 to 35°C: Chatham, Grand Bend, Leamington, London, Niagara Falls, Port Colborne, Sarnia, Simcoe, St. Catharines, St. Thomas, Windsor and Woodstock.

25 to 30°C: Barrie, Brantford, Burlington, Collingwood, Goderich, Guelph, Hamilton, Hanover, Kincardine, Kitchener, Listowel, Midland, Mississauga, Orangeville, Orillia, Owen Sound, Southampton, Stratford, Tobermory, Toronto and Vaughan.

20 to 25°C: Algonquin Park, Bancroft, Barry's Bay, Bayfield Inlet, Belleville, Burk's Falls, Cornwall, Haliburton, Huntsville, Kawartha Lakes, Kingston, Oshawa, Ottawa, Parry Sound, Peterborough, Prince Edward and Renfrew.


Monday

Temperatures will increase by Monday, with much of the region dealing with humidex values into the 40s. Eastern and Central Ontario are expected to see humidex values between 35 and 40°C.

40 to 45°C: Barrie, Brantford, Burlington, Chatham, Collingwood, Goderich, Grand Bend, Hamilton, Kincardine, Leamington, London, Midland, Niagara Falls, Orangeville, Orillia, Owen Sound, Port Colborne, Sarnia, Simcoe, St. Catharines, St. Thomas, Stratford, Tobermory, Toronto, Vaughan, Windsor and Woodstock.

35 to 40°C: Algonquin Park, Barry's Bay, Bayfield Inlet, Belleville, Brockville, Cornwall, Haliburton, Huntsville, Kawartha Lakes, Kingston, Oshawa, Ottawa, Parry Sound, Peterborough, Prince Edward, and Renfrew.


Tuesday

We are expecting the entire region to see humidex values of 40 to 45°C by the time we get to Tuesday, according to the current data.


As stated, the heat wave is expected to continue until at least Friday. More details on the rest of the week will be posted in the coming days.
