Local hockey players for the South Kent Lightning will be returning to the ice as soon as this Saturday, February 20.
In a press release Wednesday, the South Kent Minor Hockey Association (SKMHA) said that as Chatham-Kent remains in the Red - Control level of the COVID-19 Response Framework, only practices will occur at this time with a limit of 10 players on the ice at one time. Games and scrimmages can occur when Chatham-Kent moves to the Orange - Restrict level or better.
SKMHA adds that from February 20 to March 1, ice times will be used to prepare players for games if COVID-19 restrictions allow. The ice is currently booked until the end of March and they are attempting to extend it to the end of April, but this is not guaranteed.
