There will be a Moderate risk for severe weather across Eastern Ontario late this morning and into the afternoon hours. Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop in a very favourable environment. Ensure you have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.
The Moderate risk area includes Cornwall, Prescott and Russell, and areas near the Quebec border. In these areas, threats will include heavy rain, local flooding, 1 or 2 tornadoes, strong wind gusts up to 100 km/h and large hail.
The Elevated risk area includes Ottawa, Brockville and Carleton Place. In these areas, threats will include heavy rain, local flooding, strong wind gusts up to 100 km/h, large hail, and the risk for an isolated tornado.
The Low risk area includes Renfrew, Perth and Kingston. In these areas, threats will include heavy rain, local flooding, strong wind gusts up to 90 km/h and small hail.
The Very Low risk area includes Greater Napanee, Kingston, Bancroft and Barry's Bay. In these areas, threats will include heavy rain, local flooding and strong wind gusts up to 90 km/h.
We do not anticipate that the severe weather threat will affect areas past the Very Low risk area.
We encourage the public to monitor weather alerts and watch for updated forecasts as the day progresses. We will be posting all updates to our social media pages.
A Tornado Watch has been issued for Eastern Ontario by Environment Canada.
