Moderate Risk for Severe Weather Thursday

There will be a Moderate risk for severe weather this afternoon and evening across Eastern Ontario. The threat for severe weather will decrease further west.


The Moderate risk area includes Huntsville, Bancroft, Barry's Bay, Ottawa, Cornwall, Brockville, Kingston and Belleville. In these areas, threats will include heavy rain of 60 to 80 mm, flooding, the risk for 1 or 2 tornadoes, wind gusts of 110 km/h or greater, and hail 3 to 4 cm in diameter.


The Elevated risk area includes Parry Sound, Bracebridge, Peterborough, Oshawa, Barrie, Orillia, Midland, Owen Sound, Tobermory, Kincardine and Shelburne. In these areas, threats will include heavy rain, flooding, the risk for an isolated tornado, wind gusts of 100 km/h, and hail 2 to 3 cm in diameter.


The Low risk area includes Newmarket, Toronto, Orangeville, Listowel, Goderich, Stratford, Kitchener and Oakville. In these areas, threats will include heavy rain, wind gusts of 90 km/h, and hail 1 to 2 cm in diameter.


The Very Low risk area includes Windsor, Chatham, Sarnia, London, Brantford, Simcoe, Hamilton and St. Catharines. In these areas, threats will include heavy rain and the potential for strong wind gusts.
