Freezing Rain Begins Monday Night

Freezing rain is expected to begin late Monday night and continue through Tuesday across the region. A slow morning commute is expected across the region due to icy road conditions.


Most of Southern Ontario will see some freezing rain, however, the bulk of it is expected through the Barrie area, the GTA, parts of Eastern Ontario, and the Golden Horseshoe.


Icy conditions are expected on roadways and sidewalks Tuesday morning in Southwestern and Midwestern Ontario, as well as the GTA, the Golden Horseshoe, and the Barrie area. Take caution if travelling tomorrow morning.


The heaviest amount of freezing rain is expected over the Barrie area, however, much of Southern Ontario will see ice accretion from this event.


Area Breakdown

4 to 6 mm: Collingwood, Barrie, Keswick, Orillia and Midland.

2 to 4 mm: London, Stratford, Woodstock, Brantford, Hamilton, Welland, St. Catharines, Kitchener, Orangeville, Toronto, Oshawa, Cobourg, Peterborough, Belleville, Kingston, Bracebridge and Huntsville.

Trace to 2 mm: Rodney, St. Thomas, Simcoe, Listowel, Hanover, Owen Sound, Parry Sound, Bancroft, Barry's Bay, Brockville, Cornwall and Ottawa.


Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a Freezing Rain Warning for the region, warning of icy surfaces due to freezing rain. They state that there may be an impact on the morning commute.
