Ontario Provides Update on COVID-19 Restrictions

In a press conference Thursday morning, Ontario Premier Doug Ford, along with Minister of Health Christine Elliot, provided an update on Ontario's COVID-19 restrictions.


Doug Ford announced that the coming weeks and months will be tough, however, the hospital system can handle it.


The province will be reopening in phases. Each phase will last 21 days, and if needed, the province can always move backwards, or extend the periods for a phase. More details are below.


Proof of Vaccination will continue to be required where it was required prior to the closures.


Effective January 31, 2022:

  • 50% capacity limit such as restaurants, bars, retail, gyms, zoos, casinos, science centres and religious services

    • Restaurants limited to 10 people per table

    • No singing or dancing at restaurants or bars

  • Concerts, Sporting Events, Theatres: 50% capacity or 500 people or less

  • Food and Drink prohibited at concerts, indoor sporting events, theatres, cinemas and bingo halls

  • Indoor Gatherings: 10 or less

  • Outdoor Gatherings: 25 or less



Effective February 21, 2022:

  • No capacity limit in areas where proof of vaccination is required such as restaurants, bars, gyms, cinemas, racing venues, meeting spaces, casinos and bingo halls

  • Indoor Religious Services limited to number of people who can maintain 2 metre distance

  • Indoor Gatherings: 25 people or less

  • Outdoor Gatherings: 100 people or less


Effective March 14, 2022:

  • All capacity limits removed

  • Indoor Gatherings: 50 people or less

  • Outdoor Gatherings: No limit
