Discussion

An early spring storm has set its sights on the region and conditions will begin to change this afternoon. It will bring numerous hazards to the area, including high winds, heavy rainfall, snow, and the potential for some severe weather.

The highest wind gusts are expected near Lake Huron. Winds are expected to strengthen this evening into the overnight hours. Some areas may see wind gusts over 110 km/h. Much of the area will see wind gusts below 90 km/h. Now is a good time to secure any loose outdoor objects or bring them inside.

Rain and thunderstorms will continue through the day today into tomorrow. Areas near Lake Ontario are expected to see the heaviest rainfall amounts. Flooding will be a concern, and any area that receives heavy downpours or thunderstorms may receive locally higher rainfall amounts.

The rain is expected to transition to snow on Wednesday afternoon, and most of this snow will likely be wet snow. Accumulations remain slightly uncertain due to some uncertainty regarding surface temperatures. The best chance for accumulation is expected over Eastern Ontario and higher elevations. The axis of snow is expected to move south and west by Thursday, bringing some snow for the morning commute.
