Discussion

The first large winter storm will move into the region tomorrow morning. For areas towards Central Ontario, some will see heavy snow. Areas in Southwestern Ontario will see soaking rain through the day. Freezing rain will be possible along the transition line between rain and snow.

Snow will begin in Southwestern Ontario in the morning hours, between 6 and 7 AM. For those in Extreme Southwestern Ontario, including Windsor, Chatham and Sarnia, the snow will be heavy and wet before changing over to rain. Strong wind gusts are also expected, resulting in the potential for very poor visibility during the morning commute. The snow will push eastward through the day before bringing rain to much of the region, aside from Central Ontario where only trace amounts of rain is expected.

Strong wind gusts are expected through the day. Areas along Lake Erie such as Fort Erie, and areas along Lake Ontario such as Prince Edward County will see stronger wind gusts, potentially reaching 100 km/h. Lake Erie and Lake Ontario may see wind gusts over 100 km/h.

High rainfall amounts of up to 40 mm are possible, especially in the Golden Horseshoe, GTA and Eastern Ontario. Be aware of the potential for flooding and ponding on roadways. Never attempt to drive through a flooded road.

The storm will begin moving out of the area on Wednesday after it brings another quick burst of snow to the region, possibly bringing 5 cm to areas off Lake Huron.
