Weather Summary: January 25-26, 2023

Summary

A Texas low moved into Southwestern Ontario early Wednesday morning, bringing significant snowfall to some parts of the region. The morning commute on Wednesday was impacted in some areas of Southwestern Ontario due to the falling snow. Some school boards cancelled school buses due to the expected impacts of the afternoon commute.

By the afternoon, snowfall rates began to pickup across Southwestern Ontario and the GTA. Roads became snow covered and slippery very quickly, resulting in collisions and poor travel conditions for the afternoon and evening commute. Some areas saw snowfall rates of 3 to 6 centimetres per hour.

Areas of Extreme Southwestern Ontario, parts of Niagara, and the Kingston area reported thundersnow during this event. Lightning strikes were picked up on radar while we were monitoring!

We would like to thank everyone who took the time to submit their snowfall reports to us. Snowfall totals are below.
