Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for:
Apsley - Woodview - Northern Peterborough County
Peterborough City - Lakefield - Southern Peterborough County
At 1:37 p.m. EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts and up to toonie size hail. This severe thunderstorm is located 5 kilometres southwest of Bobcaygeon, moving east at 55 km/h. Hazard: Toonie size hail and 100 km/h wind gusts. A tornado is also possible. Locations impacted include: Bobcaygeon, Buckhorn, Wolf Island Provincial Park, Burleigh Falls, Woodview, Pigeon Lake, Gannon, Point Pleasant, Little Bald Lake, Buckhorn Lake, Big Bald Lake, Rockcroft, Upper Chemong Lake, Lower Buckhorn Lake, Deer Bay, Moore Lake, Katchewanooka Lake, Lovesick Lake, Clear Lake and Kawartha Park.
Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
