Severe Weather Potential for Wednesday

Writer: Advance WeatherAdvance Weather

Severe thunderstorms are possible across Southern Ontario on Wednesday afternoon. If thunderstorms develop, we expect the main threats to be heavy rain, strong winds and small hail.

Our Severe Weather Outlook is shown above. We have put most of Southwestern Ontario in the Elevated risk category. This area will have the greatest risks if severe thunderstorms develop. As stated above, the main threats will be heavy rain, strong winds and small hail. Areas east of the elevated category have been placed in the Low category. In this area, severe thunderstorms are possible but have a lesser chance of developing.

The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK is forecasting a marginal and slight risk for severe thunderstorms for Southern Ontario. They do not forecast for Canada, however their outlooks can be interpreted fairly easily.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a thunderstorm outlook as well, valid from 12 PM Wednesday to 6 AM Thursday. They placed most of Southwestern Ontario in their Moderate category, showing the main threats will be 2-3 cm hail and 90-100 km/h wind gusts.
