Friday will bring another blast of winter to Southern Ontario, beginning overnight into the early morning hours.

Widespread snow will push across the region overnight into Friday morning, from west to east. For many areas except Eastern Ontario, the snow will impact the morning commute and will be heavy at times. Snow will likely end late Friday morning into the afternoon hours, from west to east.

Snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 centimetres are expected across the region, with higher amounts of 10 to 15 centimetres and 15 to 20 centimetres likely for areas off Lake Huron where some snow squalls are expected.

Additional snowfall accumulation will be possible across the region during the afternoon and evening when a frontal snow squall passes through the region, bringing poor travel conditions.

As the snow stops, wind gusts will begin increasing across the region, mainly during the evening hours. Wind gusts of 80 to 90 km/h are expected for areas off Lake Huron and into Southwestern Ontario. Portions of the GTA may see wind gusts of 80 to 90 km/h during the early morning hours Saturday.

Widespread blowing and drifting snow is expected as a result of the strong wind gusts. Blizzard conditions are likely for areas off Lake Huron and in Southwestern Ontario. Poor visibility and road closures are likely. The evening commute will likely be impacted for many areas due to blowing and drifting snow, as well as the frontal snow squall expected.

Blizzard Warnings (Orange Level), Blowing Snow Advisories (Yellow Level), Snow Squall Watches (Yellow Level) and Special Weather Statements have been issued by Environment Canada.
