Snow Squalls Begin Late Wednesday Afternoon

Lake effect snow squalls will develop off Lake Huron and Georgian Bay late this afternoon and continue throughout the day on Thursday. The hardest hit areas may see 25 to 30 cm of snow, however, it is important to remember that local snowfall amounts will vary due to the nature of snow squalls.

Within the snow squalls, visibility may be reduced to zero at times. Weather and road conditions may deteriorate quickly. Postpone any unnecessary travel in areas where snow squalls are forecasted until conditions improve.

25 to 30 cm is expected for areas such as Goderich, Listowel, Kincardine, Hanover, Barrie, Collingwood, and Midland.

20 to 25 cm is expected for areas such as Stratford, Shelburne, Owen Sound, Orillia, and Bracebridge.

15 to 20 cm is expected for areas such as Kitchener, Grand Bend, Orangeville, Newmarket, Parry Sound, and Huntsville.

10 to 15 cm is expected for areas such as London, Woodstock and Markham.

5 to 10 cm is expected for areas such as Hamilton, Toronto, Oakville, Peterborough, Barry's Bay, and Bancroft.

Trace to 5 cm is expected for areas such as St. Thomas, Cayuga, Coburg, Brighton, and Belleville.

As stated, local amounts will vary in snow squalls. Some areas may get more snow than forecasted, and some areas may get no snow. However, it is very common for sunny skies and rapidly accumulating snow to occur only kilometres apart. Drivers should exercise caution if travelling. Road closures are possible.
