Snow Squalls Ramp Up Thursday

Snow squalls have developed in Southwestern Ontario this evening and will continue through the day Thursday.


The most impacted areas are expected to be areas off Georgian Bay, including Angus, Borden, Essa and Sunnidale Corners were 25 to 50 centimetres is expected. 15 to 25 centimetres is expected for areas off Lake Huron, including Clinton, Exeter, Listowel, London and Mitchell. Snowfall amounts may overachieve in any area.
Weather and road conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly, especially for areas where snow squalls lock in position. In addition to the heavy snow, wind gusts up to 60 km/h are expected to cause blowing and drifting snow. Travel conditions along Highways 400, 404, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 21, 23 26 and 89 are expected to be very poor. Road closures will be possible as well. Avoid non-essential travel if possible.
Environment Canada has issued Snow Squall Warnings (both Orange and Yellow Level). There are also Snow Squall Watches (Yellow Level) in effect.

Snow squalls are expected to slowly weaken late tomorrow into Friday.
