A low pressure system will bring various types of weather to the region, beginning overnight Tuesday into Wednesday and continuing into Wednesday night for some. This system will bring threats ranging from prolonged freezing rain to severe thunderstorms.
For Eastern Ontario, the main concern is freezing rain beginning overnight and continuing into Wednesday afternoon for some areas. Some areas may see up to 14 mm of freezing rain, which may lead to power outages, damage to trees, and slippery road conditions.
In Southwestern and Midwestern Ontario, the concern for this system will be the potential for some severe weather. The risk is expected begin in the afternoon. The main threat for these thunderstorms is expected to be strong wind gusts. All risks for severe thunderstorms are fairly difficult to forecast in this scenario due to high amounts of cloud cover, which may hinder thunderstorm development.
Severe Weather Outlook
As stated, the main risk for severe weather will be in Southwestern and Midwestern Ontario. Thunderstorms are expected to develop in the afternoon or evening hours. Some uncertainty remains regarding where and when the thunderstorms will develop.
The Elevated risk area includes Windsor, Leamington, Chatham, Sarnia and London. Within these areas, we are expecting threats including heavy rain, small hail, flooding, strong wind gusts up to 90 km/h, and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
The Low risk area includes Tobermory, Wiarton, Kincardine, Goderich, Hanover, Kitchener, Brantford, Hamilton, Simcoe and Niagara Falls. Within these areas, we are expecting threats including heavy rain, the potential for small hail, flooding, strong wind gusts up to 90 km/h.
The Very Low risk area includes Collingwood, Barrie, Orangeville, Newmarket, Oakville and Toronto. Within these areas, we are expecting threats including heavy rain, flooding, strong wind gusts up to 80 km/h.
The Non-Severe risk area includes the rest of the region. Within these areas, we are expecting threats including heavy rain, frequent lightning, and the potential for strong wind gusts.
Freezing Rain Outlook
As stated, heavy freezing rain will be possible in some areas, particularly along the Quebec border. Lower amounts of freezing rain are expected further west towards the GTA. Within the heaviest area of freezing rain, power outages, damage to trees, and slippery road conditions will all be possible. At times, the freezing rain may mix with ice pellets and reduce the amount of ice accretion.

10 to 14 mm: Barry's Bay, Renfrew, Bancroft, Ottawa, Carleton and Prescott and Russell.
6 to 10 mm: Algonquin Park, Haliburton, Brockville and Cornwall.
2 to 6 mm: Parry Sound, Huntsville, Bracebridge, Midland, Orillia, Peterborough, Brighton, Belleville, Napanee and Kingston.
Trace to 2 mm: Collingwood, Barrie, Port Perry and Oshawa.
