Environment Canada has issued Gale Warnings and Strong Wind Warnings for the Great Lakes.
A Gale Warning is in effect for Northern and Southern Lake Huron, stating that Gale force winds of 34 to 47 knots (62 to 87 km/h) are expected overnight into Sunday morning. Some of our modelling shows that wind gusts near 100 km/h will be possible in Lake Huron, especially near Manitoulin Island during the pre-dawn hours of Sunday.
The WaveWatch model from the Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory shows waves near 12 feet will be possible early Sunday morning, once again near Manitoulin Island.
For Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, Lake St. Clair, Lake Simcoe, and Georgian Bay, Strong Wind Warnings are in effect. Environment Canada states that winds of 20 to 33 knots (37 to 61 km/h) are expected into Sunday morning.
Mariners are advised to take caution or postpone activities if planning to be on the water.
