WEATHER RECAP: September 24, 2025

Throughout the day Wednesday, slow moving thunderstorms moved through Southern Ontario, prompting multiple Severe Thunderstorm Warnings from Environment Canada.


The southern portion of Essex County was hit particularly hard, with a Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for the area at 8:37 AM Wednesday. Environment Canada stated that Colchester and Harrow were the affected areas, and there was a severe thunderstorm capable of producing torrential rainfall with amounts of 75 millimetres possible. At 10:45 AM, the warning was updated to include Comet and Willowood as affected locations, and they stated rainfall amounts of 100 millimetres were possible.


The Essex Region Conservation Authority issued a Flood Warning at 12:26 PM on Wednesday, stating that "streets have significant water over the roadways including many roads heading south towards Lake Erie."


By the afternoon and evening hours, scattered rain and thunderstorms continued to produce torrential rainfall across portions of the area. Photos and videos came out from affected areas.


Flooding was also reported in Chatham-Kent, including in Dresden and Thamesville as a slow-moving thunderstorm produced torrential rainfall.
