NOAA (the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) in the United States has released their outlook for the 2024-25 winter season.
They state that a slowly developing La Nina is favoured to influence conditions for the upcoming winter season across much of the United States. Although their forecast only covers the US, it can be interpolated for what we will see in our area - weather doesn't stop at the border!
The outlook is for December 2024 through February 2025, and they are predicting wetter than average conditions in the Great Lakes region, along with Warmer than average temperatures.
The La Nina conditions are expected to develop later this fall, and typically lead to a more northerly storm track in the winter.
What kind of winter will we really see across Southern Ontario? We will have to wait and see!
